As the New Year approaches I find myself thinking about how I would like to see the year unfold. For several years now, my daughter and I have spent time together planning and writing down our goals. At a very young age, she understood the importance of not just identifying, but putting into writing the many things she planned to accomplish in the coming year.
When she was younger, she wanted a trampoline for Christmas. Having it would allow her the opportunity to improve upon her skills that were necessary to not just try out, but make the Cheerleading Squad. She cut out the pictures, she put it on her Wish List and she even went a step further. She explained to me that she knew she was going to get one because I had taught her that if you visualize yourself on the trampoline and actually feel the excitement of receiving said trampoline and knowing that it was a necessary tool to improve her skills in order to try out then how could she not expect to receive it. It's difficult to argue with her logic. Her dad was against it at first (damage to lawn, short-term interest, possibility of her and others getting hurt), but alas he gave in. She made the team as well!
